Week 6: Trial
week 6:
trial
Rise and shine. The sirens that filled the streets on Friday have died down, allowing you to spend the morning peacefully despite the news. It isn't until 11 AM that an alarm goes off on everyone's phone, citing a reminder for the trial taking place at the courthouse at noon. It turns off soon, but pops back up every ten minutes to ensure that you don't forget.
Shortly before 12 PM, all heroes feel a compulsion to head to the courthouse, where the staff direct you to one of the courtrooms reserved for the day's events. Attendance is mandatory, it seems, and once everyone has arrived, the doors close and lock behind them.
Yesterday's investigation was only the beginning. The real work begins now.
There will be a mod-tag break between 5 PM EST / 2 PM PST to 6 PM EST / 3 PM PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.
To vote for a culprit, head over to the voting page! Voting is mandatory in this game, so please be sure that your vote is in by the time trial finishes at 9 PM EST / 6 PM PST.
Good luck, heroes!

MAYORAL BUSINESS (cold open)
If you didn't stay at the beach bonfire on Thursday night, let us know. Otherwise I think pretty much all of us were there? [ he takes a breath, then sighs it out. ] We've lost three people. Let's try to keep things going all trial, for their sakes, alright? Help each other out as best we can and double-check everything.
INVESTIGATIONS
Warehouse
So, one of the warehouse doors was already opened when Tem and I came on by. First thing we saw when we entered were stacks of boxes. They weren't like stacked up normally as they would be in warehouse, either; so not aligned like the usual. They were also about a few boxes high. Several of 'em were opened, and also rummaged through; stuff inside of them were out of place due to that. Also nothing looked like it was taken out, but two boxes stuck out for the following reasons:
The first had a compass, and another a card with writing on the back. They don't look like they were thrown, by the way, just set down.
Also, the writing on both sides of the card looked printed off instead of written.
Not too far away from the boxes and against the walls was a 10 foot tall ladder and a 3-drawer filing cabinet.
There were some black drips on top of said ladder, and a note was taped on the underpart of the top part of the ladder.
Next to the ladder happened to be a huge 9, spray painted on the wall in black. But, that wasn't the only number on the wall. In like a square, on the right of the 9 was a 7, next a 3 (on the wall above the door we came in), and lastly, a 4. So, basically a number for each wall, and all in black too just like the 9. Which basically leaves the numbers as 9734.
Tem looked closely at the filing cabinet and saw it had shipping documents, for cargo shipping stuff or something? Which seemed like they were rifled through. There was a loose piece of paper on one of the shipping info files at the far back.
He also noticed some black drippy spots on the floor.
Anyway, he then took notice of some extra cabinets hanging around. Most were unlocked, but one had a visible 4-digit combination lock. We didn't have time to look into it at the moment, so we plan on getting right to it ASAP.
Also, ceiling had some more spray paint in black, 'NEWS'. I could tell the word on the ceiling was, like, positioned right above the black drippy spots on the ground.
We couldn't exactly find what was used to paint the stuff in black, by the way, so we're still on the lookout for that.
INVESTIGATION: LASER TAG
Robin and I checked out the Laser Tag place.
For the most part, we just found these stupid cards everywhere. Robin found the "sir singleton" card inside the cash register, and the "bottlecap bestie" card inside a planner in the check-in area.
There was a table with three cups on it. They looked empty to me. Probably some idiot having tea with their murderer again...
Near the beginning of the maze, there was a paper airplane lodged between the walls. We found the "dangerous diva" card on the underside of an arch. Farther in, we found the "bare hands" card tucked inside an alcove. Then, on the floor by the exit, there was the "Amazoom dagger" card.
On a return table by the exit, there were three sets of laser tag gear: armor and guns. Two were on the larger side, while one was smaller. The smaller one had the "aquamarine artiste" card taped inside.
... Yeah, that's it.

Are they supposed to do something?

ANIME STORE & PURIKURA
What brought us to the purikura booths was a trail of sand leading to the mall. I put some in an empty Remedy bottle just in case we needed it.
The purikura booths were on fire, but the useless fire brigade prinnies were nearby so we managed to put it out. Tama collected some of the gunpowder around the booths in a disposable glove that was brought back, in case anyone wants to check it.
Danny was here, at some point, with another person. We found a photo of him in the booth, someone else's arm just barely in the frame, and I managed to bring back the props that he was wearing even though the rest of it was burned and/or sort of in disarray.
There's photos of everything as usual.

[his brow furrows.]
...fire and gunpowder in the same place sounds dangerous.
[did they narrowly avoid an explosion.]
FOX DORM
[will's eyes are a little red, like he spent a significant amount of time crying recently. which, like. is maybe not surprising, all things considered?]
There was a shopping cart out in front - it had a little blood in it, some snacks, and some snack wrappers. There was blood smeared on the floor of the seating area, heading toward the elevator. Like something was dragged across it...? And some footprints. Some bigger than Nico's feet, some smaller.
Vane was in the elevator, face-up. He had some ... fabric, I think? Folded up under his head, like it was a pillow. There was blood in there, and a bloody knife. The handle was close to Vane's hand.
And there was an ax on the couch. [mods said he'd have to wait until trial to find out if it was the same ax vane's been carrying around all game, so. he'll check on that after i finish writing this unless someone else has beaten me to it.] We took the elevator up to be sure and it didn't seem like there was anything on the second floor. I think it was all in that seating area and the elevator.
konbini
[glances. at where nimona is checking danny's corpse. god.]
I think Danny tried to barricade himself inside because a shelf was blocking the front entrance, and someone had to use a metal baseball bat to smash one of the windows in and get inside. The bat was abandoned right outside of the store, by the broken window.
The konbini wasn't a mess or anything, besides all the glass and stuff. We found a knife near the back corner of the store, and then... Danny was there. A little further away by the freezers. He was surrounded by snacks and one of his arms was chopped off.
We saw a trail of blood leading to an ice cream freezer and the back exit. Danny's arm was inside the freezer, with a drum. [and she is making a face here. not the fucking drums again!!] The trail that led to the back exit just kept going in direction of the dorms. But there were tracks, too, like from one of the shopping carts.
shooting range five years later
Uh, went to the shooting range where there was one half of a pair of walkie-talkies out on the reception desk, other half wasn't anywhere that I could find. There was a locked closet out in that front area with some slashes in the wall next to it, but I couldn't figure out the combination at the time — it was five letters, I think? And shooting the lock didn't open it, so guess we're not gonna be able to get around that.
There was a gun missing from the gun stock room and a card taped to the door that said "a convenient gun"... and in the archery one there was a typed note in one of the quivers with the arrows — said "Aquamarine Artiste would never take revenge."
Out at the actual range, both some archery and gun targets had been set up and used. Seemed like whoever used it wasn't super skilled in archery, but pretty good with a gun — on one of the targets they'd hit the right shoulder, right arm, left thigh, and forehead... and a bunch of smaller holes around the left elbow for some reason?
Where they would've been standing to shoot there was a blood puddle, and there was a gun in that puddle, that smelled like... blood, orange soda, and plastic. There were some drops leading away from there, but we got shooed outta the place before we had a chance to see if those led to anything. So definitely need to go back there today.
SHOOTING RANGE 2.0
[ And honestly, Ryuki seems kind of pissed for once. His outline and his face keeps glitching out and his voice is periodically distorted and staticky but he's still audible. ]
We found Ponta's body in a closet locked with a five-letter passcode. We had to give it a few tries, but eventually, we got it open. There was a small sword charm in there with him, and a note that said "Bottlecap Bestie wanted to fulfill a quota".
There were three slashes in the wall next to the closet, around my shoulder height. Based on the depth of the gouges, it seems more likely to be something like a sword or an axe, rather than a knife.
This card was in the trash can:
Who knew they were serious when they said soda kills? For signs of this weapon, sniff around for the scent of oranges.
Light-weight • Made of Liquid and Carbonation
This card was on one of the targets for the bow and arrows:
A friendly dude with a sunny smile. He wears clothes with lots of pockets and usually has a first-aid kit on him.
5'7" • Right-handed • Blue eyes • Blond hair • Leo
There was a blood trail leading to the spot where Mr. Datz found a gun. I took photos of the scene for better visualisation.
And I found one more note on the back of one of the gun shooting targets, reading "A witness claims to have seen a person whose eye color is always changing admiring a hero trading card."
[ He takes a breath. ]
If whoever did all of this is still here, fuck you. This isn't a game.

... Thanks for going over all that, Ryuki...

As a note. There were four numbers painted on the walls of the Warehouse - 9, 7, 4, 3. The ceiling also said "NEWS".
We were [ temenos is smiling the :') smile ] pushed out quite early, yesterday, but I noted a four digit lock to a set of cabinets in the warehouse. Those numbers are likely the combination.
