Week 6: Trial

week 6:

trial
   15 DOODZ REMAIN

Rise and shine. The sirens that filled the streets on Friday have died down, allowing you to spend the morning peacefully despite the news. It isn't until 11 AM that an alarm goes off on everyone's phone, citing a reminder for the trial taking place at the courthouse at noon. It turns off soon, but pops back up every ten minutes to ensure that you don't forget.

Shortly before 12 PM, all heroes feel a compulsion to head to the courthouse, where the staff direct you to one of the courtrooms reserved for the day's events. Attendance is mandatory, it seems, and once everyone has arrived, the doors close and lock behind them.

Yesterday's investigation was only the beginning. The real work begins now.
Welcome to your week one trial! Over the next nine hours, characters will have the chance to investigate, and theorize about the murders, as well as examine the body of the victim and explore relevant locations with NPC permission. As you gather evidence and discuss, we encourage you to revisit the investigation post to refamiliarize yourselves with the events of Friday morning.

There will be a mod-tag break between 5 PM EST / 2 PM PST to 6 PM EST / 3 PM PST. While the trial may continue and players can tag each other, mod-led threads such as questions and investigations will be on hold.

To vote for a culprit, head over to the voting page! Voting is mandatory in this game, so please be sure that your vote is in by the time trial finishes at 9 PM EST / 6 PM PST.

Good luck, heroes!

[from where she just shot herself with a gun:]

The rubber projectiles match the bruises on Vane's shoulder and arm, and on Ponta's forehead!

Bravo, Nimona. So, a connection between those two cases.

[personal profile] ballies 2023-11-04 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
... Why are all these cases so connected? We've seen links a few times, but to this extent?

We think that Danny's wound came from Vane's axe, don't we? [ she's thinking. ] So... [ ugggh. ]

Vane and Ponta were together at some point, as they have the same injuries. We can assume that much, right?

[ my brain is such soup rn ]

...probably in the shooting range. Yeah.
ballies: (076)

[personal profile] ballies 2023-11-04 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
But... they're both dead. I can't see either of them willingly killing multiple people, but ... the truth is that they're both dead so something must've happened.

And we have those cards suggestion possession as well. [ ... ]
stunwhistle: (093)

[personal profile] stunwhistle 2023-11-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
...I really think if the moon could actually possess someone we'd have heard about it before now.
ballies: (061)

[personal profile] ballies 2023-11-04 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. They did say one's a lie.

[ ... ]

So. Revenge, or just for kicks are other ones.
stunwhistle: (012)

[personal profile] stunwhistle 2023-11-04 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
It said one of the witness statements was a lie, right...?

...usually in logic puzzle games like this, the motives are just given to help you narrow down the actual culprit. Once you put it in all together, the only motive that's relevant to the murder is the one that belonged to the person who did it.

So it might just be that these motives were made up for the chart. Or whatever.

...let's just see what comes up when we put it all together.

I don't know if we checked other weapons against Danny's wounds, but yeah, the axe was a pretty good match.

And... I think yeah, we can assume that they were together, or like... whoever killed them, at least, both saw them? Right? I don't know who actually shot the gun, though.
ballies: (145)

[personal profile] ballies 2023-11-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
So... [ hang on she's looking at the cards as well. ]

We think the drum was used on Vane, so that would be the 'Loss of Control' card we found. And the 'Fulfil a quota' one is self explanatory.
sharkgirl: (eighty-eight)

[personal profile] sharkgirl 2023-11-04 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. [she's staring at the cards...]

The tallest person and the shortest person on the list are Fox and Hana, so they didn't get controlled. The second tallest person was... Vane? So he was holding a sword?

The person with a convenient gun was either possessed by the moon or suffering from a loss of control... that wasn't Vane, though, right?
hanaban: (029)

[personal profile] hanaban 2023-11-04 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Does an ax count as a sword?

[ ?? is that not the lie ]
sharkgirl: (thirty-eight)

[personal profile] sharkgirl 2023-11-04 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think so, so... that has to be the lie, right? Which means everything else is true.
stunwhistle: (012)

[personal profile] stunwhistle 2023-11-04 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
...that's the thing, it said one of the witnesses was lying, right?

So that'd be one of the things that started with "a witness claims" that would be a lie...

"Mysterious sword." Both weapons have blades and handles, so...you could maybe count it if you squint about it.
ballies: (090)

[personal profile] ballies 2023-11-04 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Mysterious Sword. I wonder if that's just mean to be an axe...? But why not just have an axe card for that. [ mysterious sword... ]

Did Vane know how to use a gun? [ ... ] We think it was a modern one, but honestly looking at what Axel told us about Ponta's body, maybe the 'gun' was convenient because it was in the shooting range?
sharkgirl: (fifty-three)

[personal profile] sharkgirl 2023-11-04 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think the convenient gun was the shooting range one because - that's the one that had the rubber bullets in it, right, so.

I... don't know a lot about Vane. I never talked to him, so I don't know if he knew how to use a gun. But he didn't use that to kill Danny.

[ she rubs her eyes. ]

So. Putting aside Vane killing Danny, because we're pretty sure that's what happened there. Do we assume Ponta's death was due to what's been mentioned here? An inter-team kill? It wouldn't surprise me if there was collaboration there, because we found the two walkie talkies and the connecting puzzles to find Ponta's body and evidence someonea at the shooting range would've been able to talk with whoever was at the warehouse. It's just... who that collaboration was between that I'm not sure about. Ponta and someone.

Making it obvious something was hidden, but making us work to find it. But Vane and Danny are also dead. We think Vane was controlled into killing Danny, and then whoever controlled him killed Vane to clean up any loose ends. Does... that seem like a potential order of events?

To fulfill a quota, loss of control, just for kicks, possessed by the moon, and revenge for a friend. Those are the ones I know about?

But there's a statement talking about the perosn whose eye colour is always changing admiring a hero trading card, and I can't see where that fits in.
