A warm welcome to new heroes!

You wake up in a bed, big enough to fit you, no matter your size. Mind your head as you remove yourself from the bed. Getting out of bed, you see dozens and dozens of identical capsule sized "rooms". It seems like it's just you and the other souls who've only recently arrived.

Your usual outfit is folded neatly in the capsule, and your item from home is set aside in your room. It seems whatever force brought you here decided to put you in a superhero themed kigu (Superman, Batman, Captain America, etc).

The lobby of the hotel is not staffed, but there is a single newspaper found in the seating area. There's not too much to explore outside of the capsule hotel at the moment. Just outside is a wall of vending machines, and everything else is taped off with caution tape and small blue penguin-like creatures telling you not to go any further. "It's dangerous, dood!" These penguins are running around with what look like building materials, ducking underneath the caution tape to start rebuilding an absolutely wrecked city.

One of the creatures stands in front of the hotel, "Welcome to Oceanside City, dood! Take these and don't lose them. Sorry the team leads couldn’t meet you yet, they’re busy..."

They hand you a bag with:

• A smartphone in a case of your team's color, emblazoned with the team's animal
• Change for the vending machines
• A boxed lunch

With that, the creature sends you on your way. Time to get to know your new home.

....well. Funnily enough, I don't live on an island, I live on a continent - the eastern continent, in a place called Flamechurch. I suppose it's not all that uncommon for some places to be unconnected, though.

Uh, wait, I'm a little lost, here...?

Solistia is made up of two continents - the east, and the west, split into a variety of smaller lands, with the island of Toto'haha as its own sovereign nation. That is to say, I've never heard of the Red Line.

[ what is one piece... what is the grand line

It reasons to believe that my reality is quite different than yours. Perhaps even a different world, as strange as that sounds.

Perhaps. It's only a theory - but without much more to go on, that is all we can currently do, is theorize.

It's a bit overwhelming, hm?

That's putting it lightly. I've seen a lot of crazy things in my life, but...

Yes; this is quite the troubling time we've found ourselves in, isn't it.

[ the idea of world hopping is insane. he watches ace for a moment, and then gives him a bit of a smile, reassuring. ]

I think it's quite natural to find it all a bit much. A reality shift is always quite earth shaking, but, with time will come stability.

What's your name? It was quite rude of me not to ask, before.

Despite everything. [ he finishes, with a sympathetic smile. ]

Ace. The feeling is mutual; my name is Temenos. Strange situations beget interesting encounters, if nothing else.

Are you really from an island? I imagine you must do quite a bit of seafaring.

Yep. It's kind of weird to meet people who aren't! [ NO ONE LIVES ON THE RED LINE. ] Though I haven't been there in years. I'm a pirate.

You didn't look like one! I meant what do you do?

but!! he touches a hand to his heart, afterwards, giving off the Bastion of Holy Light Smile ]

I am the Inquisitor for the Church of the Sacred Flame. A cleric, more or less, though one with more duties.

Huh. So is the flame your god or something?

More or less, yes. There are eight of them, technically, but that is a long and drawn out story that I won't bore you with - one best kept to Sunday schools and paper plays.

Think of it as a warm fire on a cold night, and the properties therein; keeps you warm, and keeps you safe from the things that lurk in the night. Guides you down a dark path. So on, so forth.

As far as gods go, fire sounds like a pretty good one to me. [ he sounds amused as he says it ] So you teach people about your god normally?

[inquired]

Sometimes, yes. Or, I might provide a listening ear and a guiding hand for lost little lambs who might need assistance back onto their proverbial path. Occasionally, I'm trapped in a mountain of memorization and rote history. Every now and then, I deal with heretics. Really, it depends on the day - not nearly so exciting a life.

[ dealing with heretics... just church things ]

But, the shepherd attends his flock, so to speak.

Doesn't dealing with heretics usually involve killing them?

[ he just sounds amused about murder tho ]

Just a smiting or two here and there! It's not always so drastic.

Just a little smiting? That's a pretty messed up thing to say!

Believe it or not, religion can be terribly 'messed up'.

But, it all depends on perspective, as so many things in life often do. Still, a little well placed holy light is an excellent defender and occasional educator, in times of need.
