A warm welcome to new heroes!

You wake up in a bed, big enough to fit you, no matter your size. Mind your head as you remove yourself from the bed. Getting out of bed, you see dozens and dozens of identical capsule sized "rooms". It seems like it's just you and the other souls who've only recently arrived.

Your usual outfit is folded neatly in the capsule, and your item from home is set aside in your room. It seems whatever force brought you here decided to put you in a superhero themed kigu (Superman, Batman, Captain America, etc).

The lobby of the hotel is not staffed, but there is a single newspaper found in the seating area. There's not too much to explore outside of the capsule hotel at the moment. Just outside is a wall of vending machines, and everything else is taped off with caution tape and small blue penguin-like creatures telling you not to go any further. "It's dangerous, dood!" These penguins are running around with what look like building materials, ducking underneath the caution tape to start rebuilding an absolutely wrecked city.

One of the creatures stands in front of the hotel, "Welcome to Oceanside City, dood! Take these and don't lose them. Sorry the team leads couldn’t meet you yet, they’re busy..."

They hand you a bag with:

• A smartphone in a case of your team's color, emblazoned with the team's animal
• Change for the vending machines
• A boxed lunch

With that, the creature sends you on your way. Time to get to know your new home.

Best captain in Dalsnes, of course. And I haven't lost any limbs yet. Having all four is a sign of competence!

[Not that she hasn't gotten injured before, but still, it's pretty good to have them intact right now!]

Captain of a troll-hunting division in the military of Norway, of course. Getting rid of trolls and giants like they're nothing.

[ furiously combing the octopath wiki to see if there are any troll enemies says there are not but giants are familiar. he pictures a golem. ]

Bra-vo, that is impressive! A military officer. I can't say I have many dealings with them myself, but I imagine these creatures can't be too different from foot soldiers.

They seem harmless, but don't lower your guard down. You never know how they behave after sunset.

[Maybe the sunlight is what keeps them compliant and mellow]

Most things do tend to be more dubious in the night.

[ says the guy with the coerce night path action ] I'll take your advice, captain.

Good! See? I'd be a good second in charge.

[She beams as if she had proven her worth]

That aside, I was serious about that. Part of the reason why I was trying to assemble patrolling turns for the night earlier is that I don't trust these creatures to get violent at night. Or bigger and dangerous.

[inquired]

[ the first part gets a smile, but as she continues, temenos nods. ]

Mm. I'd say as a general rule, things are quite rough in the dark of night, even where I'm from. I wouldn't mind helping on your small patrols, should you need them - the light and I are quite close, so to speak.

It's rotating turns of two hours, so you wouldn't have to be awake for too long. I have already pinpointed the weak points of the hotel and the nearby structures, to keep an eye on them, in case whatever destroyed this all comes back for a second attempt.

[Sigrun, like the skillful and experienced captain she is, has thoroughly done the job. If she hadn't been able to convince a few others to collaborate with nocturnal patrols she'd have done the nocturnal patrols herself, that's for sure]

Well, you've not too much to worry about; I've kept a night watch every now and then, so I'm at least familiar with how it goes.

[ heh. ] It sounds like you've been quite thorough! How lucky we are to have you.

Oh yes, you all got the jackpot.

You obviously know your stuff too. Let me ask something, are you a mage? You have that weird 'mage' air about you.

[Don't even ask her how she defines 'that weird mage air', she asks this simply because Temenos is a gangly relatively unassuming-looking guy, and the two mages she knows are gangly unassuming-looking guys]

I wouldn't necessarily call it that, but, yes, something along those lines - very good observation.

[ he does not react to being called weird... probably because he is weird ]

I'm a cleric. I do practice in magic, yes, but I tend towards holy magic over the elemental.

So you don't deal with dreams and runes?

[She knows pretty much next to nothing about what Lalli and Reynir do as mages, all she knows is that they have saved their collective asses through ways she doesn't really understand. All she vaguely knows is that they do their best job when they sleep and scribble things on paper or the ground, for...some reason]

...I do not.

That is to say, I have dreams like a normal person, certainly, but I can't say that they're prophetic or anything of the like. I just call upon the heavens and cast magic, one way or another.

I never really understand how any of that works, but as long as it destroys the enemies, I'm fine with anything.

[What matters is the results, really!]

Ah, yes. The light of the Sacred Flame strikes virtuous and true.

[ so yeah it absolutely destroys enemies ]
