A warm welcome to new heroes!

You wake up in a bed, big enough to fit you, no matter your size. Mind your head as you remove yourself from the bed. Getting out of bed, you see dozens and dozens of identical capsule sized "rooms". It seems like it's just you and the other souls who've only recently arrived.

Your usual outfit is folded neatly in the capsule, and your item from home is set aside in your room. It seems whatever force brought you here decided to put you in a superhero themed kigu (Superman, Batman, Captain America, etc).

The lobby of the hotel is not staffed, but there is a single newspaper found in the seating area. There's not too much to explore outside of the capsule hotel at the moment. Just outside is a wall of vending machines, and everything else is taped off with caution tape and small blue penguin-like creatures telling you not to go any further. "It's dangerous, dood!" These penguins are running around with what look like building materials, ducking underneath the caution tape to start rebuilding an absolutely wrecked city.

One of the creatures stands in front of the hotel, "Welcome to Oceanside City, dood! Take these and don't lose them. Sorry the team leads couldn’t meet you yet, they’re busy..."

They hand you a bag with:

• A smartphone in a case of your team's color, emblazoned with the team's animal
• Change for the vending machines
• A boxed lunch

With that, the creature sends you on your way. Time to get to know your new home.

[ --you know saying it like that does mean she gets a double-take. how are you used to storing and analyzing data? maybe she just means on a computer or something. ]

There has to be. It doesn't seem that smart to be building a city without following a plan. Blueprints are pretty useful. It doesn't answer if they're really building or rebuilding though.

[ because she's right. if it's related to why they're here, there's a bigger picture here they should be searching for. ]

I doubt there’d be a capsule hotel in the middle of nowhere so— rebuilding? That sounds like the more likely of the two choices.

[resumed]

It's hard to see what the damage looks like when we can't cross the tape either. How badly did the city get hit that everything has to be rebuilt?

[ballies]

If there was some kind of large-scale terrorism, then the answer to that could be “really, really badly”.

[resumed]

[ he frowns at that. ]

And if that's the case it likely means the threat's still out there. Which is also pretty bad for us if we have to get involved.

[ballies]

Could be why we’re being told not to go outside — it’s not just because a huge construction site isn’t the safest place to wander around in.

[resumed]

They kidnap us and take all of our stuff and suddenly they're concerned about us not getting killed by whatever threat is out there? [ how annoying. ] I could have handled myself fine if they at least left me with my stuff.

[ballies]

Well, if they need us alive not dead, then it makes sense. Annnnd if they need us alive, not dead, and not with the means to attack them…

[resumed]

[ you know how cats get really annoyed and their tails start lashing out. it's that vibe. ]

They know they're outranked and outnumbered in any case. It's harder to control people when they're stronger than you are. [ so...what is it that their captors want to control them for? ]

[ballies]

[ she sees this, and she thinks it's adorable. sorry, nico. ]

I'll preface this with pointing out lashing out at and pissing off your captors is a great way for a hostage situation to go really bad, really fast.

[resumed]

And I'll counter that point that at least it'll get their attention and make them come out of hiding so we can get somewhere.

[ballies]

Some guy put a knife against a penguin’s throat and that got nothing out of anyone. Other than maaaaybe giving the penguin a stress hernia.

[resumed]

Everybody keeps bringing up the knife guy. I mean for a good reason, but I feel like that's maybe the outlier here.

[ballies]

Yeah, but if one person drops a poison pellet in the well and the whole village turns against the outsiders…

[ if lillium made their life more difficult she’s going to hogtie him and dangle him off a skyscraper. ❤️]

The good thing, maybe, is that I haven't seen many other people with weapons. Let alone weapons to threaten the penguins with. I think that might just be uniquely him.

[ballies]

For the moment, at least. Buuut if we worry about every future variable, we’ll be paralysed with indecision. Might as well see what happens when we’re finally let out for good behaviour, right?

[resumed]

Just as good a plan as anyway. We'll meet up again then, I'm sure.
