A warm welcome to new heroes!

You wake up in a bed, big enough to fit you, no matter your size. Mind your head as you remove yourself from the bed. Getting out of bed, you see dozens and dozens of identical capsule sized "rooms". It seems like it's just you and the other souls who've only recently arrived.

Your usual outfit is folded neatly in the capsule, and your item from home is set aside in your room. It seems whatever force brought you here decided to put you in a superhero themed kigu (Superman, Batman, Captain America, etc).

The lobby of the hotel is not staffed, but there is a single newspaper found in the seating area. There's not too much to explore outside of the capsule hotel at the moment. Just outside is a wall of vending machines, and everything else is taped off with caution tape and small blue penguin-like creatures telling you not to go any further. "It's dangerous, dood!" These penguins are running around with what look like building materials, ducking underneath the caution tape to start rebuilding an absolutely wrecked city.

One of the creatures stands in front of the hotel, "Welcome to Oceanside City, dood! Take these and don't lose them. Sorry the team leads couldn’t meet you yet, they’re busy..."

They hand you a bag with:

A smartphone in a case of your team's color, emblazoned with the team's animal
Change for the vending machines
A boxed lunch

With that, the creature sends you on your way. Time to get to know your new home.

I think you and I may have different ideas of what a typical amount of fighting is. [ a little thoughtful, a little amused. ] Especially since I've never used a gun.

... Huh? Never? Then how do you protect yourself?

Other means. I can take care of myself just fine.

But having a ranged weapon really helps... How do you deal with everyone else shooting at you?

That's not--is that a thing that happens to you a lot? [ what the hell kind of world are you from, ma'am. ]

Not more than anyone else, usually...?

I don't think most places have people shooting at them that often, actually...

But what about, like, if someone cuts in line? Stuff like that can get out of hand fast until the whole store is involved.

That seems like a pretty small problem all things considered. [ couldn't you just punch someone? ]

Yeah, those kinds of scuffles don't usually last long or anything. But still! I'd hate to deal with it without a proper weapon.

If everybody else has a weapon during those fights I guess I can see why you'd feel left out without one. But it's not really like that for us.

How strange... I can't really imagine it. Every girl's gotta have her own gun. They can even be fashionable.

How do you make a gun fashionable? [ he also wonders if that's important, but given the extent of his fashion sense is "black on black with skeleton motifs" what the hell does he know. ]

You can decorate it with whatever colors and patterns and stickers you want! Some girls even attach little charms to theirs. And then there's the model itself. You can match with your friends!

[ this really just sounds like decorating a cell phone. ]

Huh. I think...I would have to pass on that. But I can see how some people might be into it. [ people like customization, but nico's practical and kind of goes "well if you're using the weapon wouldn't they just wear off?" ] They really are that common then.

[ same idea, yea. ]

I don't think I've ever met a girl who doesn't carry a gun or two every day... It'd be like leaving the house without your wallet!

[ it's debatable if nico has a wallet, but he gets the sentiment and asks the next very obvious question: ]

Does that mean yours is here, too?

Yeah! It was really nice of our kidnappers to let me keep my gun! ☆

[ h...hm. this is a little alarming when he's currently weaponless, but that's fine. ]

I wonder how they decided who got to keep weapons and who didn't. Or where they're keeping stuff they took from us.

I don't know enough about the other people who got to keep their weapons to draw any conclusions... As for the rest of our things, they may be in some kind of storage unit. Or they might have been destroyed.

[ he nods along because yeah, a storage unit makes sense, but then he frowns at the rest of that. ]

You think they would have gone so far as to destroy everything else?

If not them directly, maybe someone else with a grudge...

[ as the king of grudges, this still kind of offends him. ]

Maybe. But even then you'd think someone would come out and gloat about it sooner than later.

In my experience, they'd rather gloat to their friends than the person who's stuff they destroyed.

I can't say either option is really that great either. It's a lose-lose.
