A warm welcome to new heroes!

You wake up in a bed, big enough to fit you, no matter your size. Mind your head as you remove yourself from the bed. Getting out of bed, you see dozens and dozens of identical capsule sized "rooms". It seems like it's just you and the other souls who've only recently arrived.

Your usual outfit is folded neatly in the capsule, and your item from home is set aside in your room. It seems whatever force brought you here decided to put you in a superhero themed kigu (Superman, Batman, Captain America, etc).

The lobby of the hotel is not staffed, but there is a single newspaper found in the seating area. There's not too much to explore outside of the capsule hotel at the moment. Just outside is a wall of vending machines, and everything else is taped off with caution tape and small blue penguin-like creatures telling you not to go any further. "It's dangerous, dood!" These penguins are running around with what look like building materials, ducking underneath the caution tape to start rebuilding an absolutely wrecked city.

One of the creatures stands in front of the hotel, "Welcome to Oceanside City, dood! Take these and don't lose them. Sorry the team leads couldn’t meet you yet, they’re busy..."

They hand you a bag with:

• A smartphone in a case of your team's color, emblazoned with the team's animal
• Change for the vending machines
• A boxed lunch

With that, the creature sends you on your way. Time to get to know your new home.

[ that gets him to go quiet. it's not...a wrong take to have. nico himself has stood behind the idea of living a full life if you get the chance, about being who you want to be and holding onto your own identity while you're alive.

but hearing the sentiment back is a little jarring when nico also has juggled his own regrets. ]

That isn't a bad way to live, I suppose. [ lightly, like his profile doesn't outright talk about making a better life. ] Has that worked so far?

I'm sure there's people who'd think otherwise, but I haven't had any since I started living like that. [ he grins a little ] Even with choices I've made that haven't ended well, I would've regretted not going through with them if I hadn't made 'em. You know?

[ he is aware he has done some dumb shit things, but he's always acted according to his beliefs, so he'll never regret it!!! this is insane philosophy don't listen to him nico ]

[ he cannot quite agree with that because sometimes terrible choices really do end up with, you know, people being killed and the like. how is it possible not to regret certain things?

...still...maybe it's just because being a pirate means there really isn't time for regrets. things happen quickly sometimes. not everyone can be like nico and hang on to things. ]

I think I understand. In that case, the regret would be creating a situation that you regret in the first place instead of at least trying something to make something better. Or something. [ he picks at his pizza. ] I guess that's the whole point of making choices anyway.

Something like that. [ he has finished his entire pizza, because he is like that, and he looks at nico picking at his ] Maybe some stuff would be different if I'd known more at the time, but I didn't, so there's no point overthinking what ifs.

I think we can agree on that. [ it's not easy, really, but it's something to consider. ] Hopefully that philosophy still works here, too.

It better! I've been following it half my life now.

So at this rate it's more about the principle than anything. Got it, got it.

Oh. [ this like. immediately gets him to shut up and not make fun of him. ] ...okay, well, that's a little different.

[ he assumes it's, like, a hero or family or something so he decides ace gets a pass. ]

Nothing. It just sounds like a pretty big promise.

Ha, yeah, kinda. But anything to do with how to live your life would be something like that, right?

Depends who you made the promise to, probably.

[ ....yeah that makes sense and his expression still doesn't change. ]

...definitely still a big promise then.

Yeah. But that doesn't mean you should make that face about it.

[ the touchy...kind of dodges just lightly but subtly before he shrugs. ]

There's no face, Ace. It was just a question. [ looking down at his mostly in-tact pizza. ] Do you want the rest of this?

[ hmmmmmm. noted ]

You sure you're not hungry? You barely touched it.

[resumed]

It's okay. [ sometimes you are just on edge and are still learning how to eat like a normal person. ] I can always grab more later, right?

[selfimmolation]

I guess that's true...

[ he will accept this and shove nico's pizza slice in his mouth. nomnom ]

[ well. that takes care of that. ]

Thanks for lunch. [ ace didn't even do anything? ] Maybe I'll see you around later. Hotel's not that big.
